Adele's '21' Sells Most In January In the UK In the Last Five Years

It is one of the most eagerly awaited albums for early 2011, and following the ongoing success of her first album 19 in the UK, we knew it would do well. However, I'm not sure anyone was quite expecting the storm of albums sales Adele enjoyed the last week when 21 debuted in UK stores. She sold over 200,000 copies in her first week which was the highest one week sales for an album in January in the UK since the Arctic Monkeys released their debut Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not in 2006. In addition, Adele's debut album 19 rose back into the top 5 making her the first artist to have her current and most recent albums both in the top 5 since 1999. The single "Rolling In the Deep" is firmly placed in the top 5 of the pop singles chart as well. American can prepare to succumb to the charms of Adele when 21 hits stores on these shores February 22, 2011.
